As i stepped out onto a cobbled path that dismissed my dreams of a loud and colourful area i pondered and decided to explore. The streets were humid and thick with a breeze that was warm to my legs and face. In no way refreshing yet sticky an thick. Was this the dream, a darkened sky high building suffocated maze of run down buildings and closed up windows and nailed shut doors. I refused to believe and continued my curiosity with large fast steps to carry me some where exciting. People started to appear, homeless people, people selling chocolates, tickets and other strange items.

The noise of footsteps and crowds appeared and i began to hope that the dream of this place was real, and what i would find would be the colourful and loud place. I crossed roads where little cars bustled along. The heat still thick but not so much a difficulty now as the adventure became more exciting. I turned to reveal a street where cars could not go but only those with paintbrushes and chalks who etched their creative thoughts on paper, concretes and materials. Besides these, shops let out curious smells which turned my attention to them, bright beads and masks hung on the walls. The colours were changing from greys and browns to pinks, blues and greens. Then my ears pricked, a sound i could hear. A whimsical sound of melodies and tones. I guided myself towards them as they grew louder my feet moved faster. I could hear the instruments now, piano, guitar...possibly a trumpet. I moved swiftly towards it. Excited as i turned a corner to see movement of colours and shades, people dancing in a dim lit bar. The music blaring from a group of people strumming at their instruments. The atmosphere, the colours the pleasant idea that my dream of this place was not an illusion but yet a possibility. I found it soft here, different and interesting. I found myself intrigued by the curious voodoo shops with magical tales of craft and magic. I found myself excited as i began to explore Bourbon street, New Orleans.

Ok, hello all.
Today we arrived in New Orleans, one of my top picks for the trip. From my intro you can probably imagine we are staying in the not so exciting streets but near to it. Our hotel is really nice, its very much like the Hilton but it has a lot more charm and character to it. The hotel was originally buildings from the 1860s. Its very elegant. So, the connecting flight was fun, my first time. I admit that i was a little concerned about my bag being lost but it made its way here, thankfully. I love New Orleans, i was a little concerned that i had fallen in love with the idea of it from the films such as Skeleton Key and from stories you hear about the jazz music being live and exciting. It was all i thought it would be. All aspects were matched, the live music blarring out of several different bars where at 2pm people were already drunk of the cocktail slushies in many exciting flavours. And the eeriness of the voodoo beliefs. We went into a shop that was extremely voodoo. Card readings, voodoo dolls, powders and charms. It was very spiritual and i have found a necklace that i will be treating myself to before we leave. Its a little jar on the end of a chain that holds in it little charms that represent protection. Im not religious but i do think these beliefs are sweet and charming, so i will delve into them whilst i am here.

Tomorrow Mike and I plan to set out on a night out. Our first one since we have been here. Its not particularly safe to have a night out in New York/Washington DC, pretty safe in Orlando however but we were a bit tired to drink there. So we will head to a jazz club, have some drinks and enjoy the atmosphere. Then on Sunday morning whilst we probably nurse the best hangover we will set sail down a swamp ride. Im so excited.

Much love from New Orleans, The Big Easy.

p.s. about the dog, he was very well fed and very well watered. He seemed extremely happy to be there. Trust me, i asked :)
